Matthew Toye Portal really know how to scramble death metal. Grab some milk of magnesia first before you dive in for a listen. Your brain is going to throw up a little bit from the disorienting tempos and squealing guitars. Favorite track: Omenknow.

Chuck Taylor Genius work. I hope they come out with new sounds, but even if they didn't, I'd be happy with their current discog. No one utilizes time signatures and staccato like Portal.

JAH Probably the first and definitely the best band in the "blurry blackened death metal" genre (i.e., Mitochondrion, Opowis, etc.). Portal, the blurriest of all, will live on through the ages. Favorite track: Omenknow.

Been enjoying Hidden History of the Human Race for some time and I finally gave this album a listen. Damn me for waiting too long to do it; I'd say it's just as good as their sophomore LP, but in a different way. No doubt it's clearly Blood Incantation, but you can see the evolution in sound between the two albums. A masterful work of atmospheric prog death doom that sits among the best of extreme metal. Absolutely incredible musicianship in a debut album. Buy this LP, support Blood Incantation. camelhouse7
