Jono Schneider There is no heavy scary wild evil music like Leviathan, and this may be his best.

Metallurgical Fire I can’t really do this album, or Wrest’s talent and influence, due justice. I can say that this album is a late discovery for me, and some of my favorite current metal projects are logical extensions of what Wrest has already done. This album is high art, the most painfully beautiful thing you’re likely to hear. Favorite track: Aphōnos.

TypeSaucy This is my favorite black metal album above all else.
Every track is memorable, the instrumentals are amazing, the vocals are varied and freakish, and it all fits like a glove.
The ambience that creeps into the songs here just screams "no hope", yet every song, with the exception of the intro, outro and the majority of Scar Sighted, are hard-hitting. Even the tracks mentioned previously are great to listen to.
Picking out a favorite track from this is extremely hard. The album is the highlight. Favorite track: Wicked Fields Of Calm.

Another long-awaited return and rejuvenation of the most notorious and infamous U.S. black metal entity, LEVIATHAN (solely commanded by Wrest, aka Jef Whitehead) has returned with what could possibly be regarded as one of the most glorious moments of Wrest’s musical career, one in which is comprised of a vast musical repertoire like no other in black metal.

Given the name “Scar Sighted”, LEVIATHAN’s fifth full-length album (amongst a repertoire that consists of numerous demos, compilations, EPs, and splits) is an album that comprises familiar moments culled from LEVIATHAN’s entire repertoire into one demented and twisted opus while standing as its own distinct entity within the LEVAIATHAN oeuvre; “Scar Sighted” being years in the making following the chaos, turbulence, and psychotic turmoil surrounding 2011’s controversial “True Traitor True Whore” album. With “Scar Sighted”, LEVIATHAN continues more in the vein of the “Massive Conspiracy Against All Life” masterpiece while other “lurkings” also run amongst the epic sound picture Wrest has painted with “Scar Sighted”.

Produced and engineered by Bill Anderson (Swans, Agalloch, Pallbearer, Red House Painters, Melvins) in Portland Oregon, Anderson in conspiracy with Wrest has helped to manifest the best, most crushing and dark sounding LEVIATHAN album to date likewise.

Le son des pieds qui s'enfoncent dans la neige, un black metal atmosphérique qui s'abat comme une tempête de grêle et tranche la peau, des violons polaires : Roads To The North est aussi glacial qu'un album de Paysage d'Hiver (surtout Schnee). En tout cas au début. Panopticon nous invite en fait moins à une méditation statique qu'à une randonnée, une ascension jusqu'aux sommets. On y accède à pieds en surpassant la douleur, en train en profitant du folklore. C'est un grand parcours initiatique. Jordan Vauvert
