zachzoo Few bands can compare to Portal, a group that is otherworldly and eerie in their style. Outre is simply another display of what makes Portal an interesting group to behold. The band's composition and technical ability precipitates a wall of sound that traps and crushes the listener. And what a unique wall of sound they create as well. Portal must be extraterrestrial. Favorite track: 13 Globes.

Zach Death Metal is like horror movies in a lot of ways, one way is that most of it is contrived, derivative garbage. That which isn't garbage is either scary in a Halloweeney way (in other words, not scary at all.) or scary in a "this person has at least one restraining order filed on him" sort of way. Portal is that incredibly rare space of actually scary in an unearthly way. Best with headphones, late at night. Favorite track: Heirships.

Ken Goodey What can you say about Portal’s music? It’s filthy, horrific & dark, and if you’re not a fan, then there's obviously nothing wrong with you. Congratulations, you're completely normal! Yes, they're a bit gimmicky with the robes and looking like the Timekeeper from Spy Kids 3, but I like dark, scary music: it touches a part of me that lighter music can't reach, or rather it fiddles about with this part in a most disturbing way, leaving me feeling cheap & dirty, but I keep going back for more. Favorite track: Black Houses.
