Everything Hooded Menace does is of the highest caliber, but 'Never Cross The Dead' is their magnum opus. They never cross the fine line between death and doom. There's a perfect balance of both.
Favorite track: Rituals Of Mortal Cremation.
Crudely melodic at times, Never Cross The Dead is a near perfectly balanced album in the realms of death/doom. Not afraid to ham up the horror movie inserts Hooded Menace manage to weight their bludgeoning riffage with harrowing melodies yet still make you want to tap your foot.

21st century death metal has a tough job getting "the hook" right. Brutality, technicality: there is no secret formula to that first 60 seconds but "immediate" is one tack the bold employ, and cratsmen as skilled as BI reap rewards with it. An absolute masterclass in how to deliver a debut full-length, _Starspawn_ stands among maybe half a dozen DM records that offer the same what-the-fuck-is-this? feeling that _Altars of Madness_ had upon its releease 30 years ago.
